Product Description: 99.6% Pure Husk. Husk (not seed) is the most effective part of the psyllium to help remove sand from the horse. The apple flavoring insures that your horse will eat our tasty supplement. Psyllium is a terrific source of fiber and the number one prevention of sand colic. Sand Free is the most palatable psyllium on the market and will not cause weight gain when fed properly. SAND-FREE is cleaned and dried blond husk from the Plantago Ovata plant. It has been cleaned and screened to be free of residual pesticides. SAND-FREE Apple Flavored Psyllium Husk is the Epidermis (outer shell) of the seed from the Plantago Ovata plant and is grown almost exclusively in India. "Psyllium Husk has a soluble fiber content of over 80%, versus 15% for Oat Bran and 10% for Wheat Bran. It is the best source of fiber and the number one prevention of sand colic for your horse, and will not contribute to weight gain". Psyllium forms a gel-like substance surrounding the sand and pebbles then flushes them out through the intestinal tract. Insoluble fibers (such as bran) simply pass through unchanged and contribute little to laxation. Psyllium can be fed with any diet.
